HONOURS were even in the battle of the Albions as Tadcaster twice came from behind late on to record a 2-2 draw at Ossett in the Evo-Stik League north.

Scott Metcalfe and Aidan Chippendale nudged the hosts ahead on two occasions in the final 20 minutes at Dimple Wells, but the resolute Brewers pulled it back both times through Casey Stewart.

The result leaves the Brewers ninth and needing a few favours to get back into the play-off spots.

Taddy boss Michael Morton made two changes to the surprise home defeat to Radcliffe Borough, with Jason Mycoe and Casey Stewart recalled in place of Harry Sheppeard and Will Annan.

The visitors made a bright start to the contest with Aiden Savory’s relentless running almost getting reward in the first five minutes after hesitation between James Knowles and Neil Bennett nearly allowed him through before the striker then glanced a Billy Whitehouse corner just off target.

Ossett’s first sight of goal came on 11 minutes when a drilled corner was flicked goalwards by Joe Wilkinson but Ellis Barkworth instinctively headed off the line.

It was the Brewers who were firmly in the ascendency in the first half and Casey Stewart went close after quarter of an hour, but his low bending shot was just gathered by goalkeeper Neil Bennett.

Taddy thought they had a penalty soon after, but the foul was determined to be on the edge of the box and Savory curled the resulting free-kick off target.

Five minutes after the restart, Stewart and Whitehouse combined only for the former to be thwarted by keeper Neil Bennett, while his opposite number Tom Young did well to keep out Harrogate Town loanee Marcus Day’s fierce strike.

It was the strong start to the half the Brewers wanted as they piled on the pressure, with both Savory and Howarth having good chances.

However, it was Ossett who broke the deadlock in the 71st minute as captain Scott Metcalfe collected a cleared cross and unleashed a thunderous 27-yard strike.

But the Brewers, determined not to let the game slip away, levelled five minutes later after a long ball forward was controlled by Savory and slid in to Stewart who made no mistake.

Another twist was just around the corner, though, as the hosts nudged ahead for the second time with just seven minutes remaining when Aiden Chippendale chopped inside Ellis Barkworth and rolled past Young into the opposite corner.

Ossett tried to see the game out by taking the ball into the corner, but it wasn’t enough against the resolute Tadcaster.

In the second minute of four added on, Aaron Hardy floated a free kick into the danger area and Stewart got the all-important glancing touch to earn Taddy a point.
