YORK’S under-14 Schoolboys side lost for only the second time this season against East Riding.

It took only three minutes for East Riding to take the lead and the early setback seemed to unsettle York’s players.

York were forced into early substitutions as both Joshua Byfield and Ben Fawcett picked up knocks and were replaced by Ben Rhodes and Olly Hanley

Luke Jones hit a 25-yard free kick over the bar and shot wide after picking up a pass from Liam White.

As York pushed for an equaliser, East Riding broke down the left and doubled their advantage with a shot that gave goalkeeper Joseph Hodge no chance.

York changed formation after the interval and employed three at the back and three in attack.

Both Ed Hammond and White had shots off target before Ben Calam had a shot cleared.

East Riding had chances to hit York on the break but Rhodes, Leo Jones and Sid McCoy protected their goalkeeper along with Elliot Oliver, Calam, Hanley and Harvey Stephenson.

Hammond made space for a shot eight yards out but his effort was well saved by the East Riding goalkeeper.

Stephenson tried his luck from distance, moments later, but his shot was always going wide of the target.

On the hour mark, with York stretched at the back, East Riding again broke down the left and the winger found his striker unmarked in the box to power a header beyond the despairing goalkeeper giving East Riding a 3-0 victory.

“We need to have more talking on the pitch, a higher tempo, and be quicker with our decision making,” said joint managers Alan Oliver and Neil Stephenson afterwards.
