ONLY two games were played in the Fastpack Ltd York Sunday Morning League division one last weekend due to postponements and County Cup action.

League leaders Malt Shovel faced fifth-placed Brayton and showed why they are six points clear at the top of the table with a comfortable 5-0 victory.

They took a 3-0 lead into the second half – Gary Collier scoring a hat-trick with Oliver O’Neill and Luke Durham also adding to the tally.

Wigginton Grasshoppers kept up the pressure with a closely-contested 5-4 victory over Hounds FC.

Neale Holmes (pictured right) had put Wigginton ahead before Hounds equalised.

Tom Derbyshire and Jamie Willstop then scored to put Wigginton into a 3-1 lead.

Derbyshire scored his second of the game with a brilliant strike from 25 yards before Hounds pulled another back to make it 4-2 to Wigginton at the interval.

Steve Jarvis scored within the first minute of the second half to make it 5-2 but Hounds came back fighting and scored two goals in quick succession.

However, this still wasn’t enough to deny Wigginton who are still six points behind Malt Shovel in second place with a game in hand.The game between NUR and Marcia Bishopthorpe was postponed.

In division two, second placed Hambleton spurned their opportunity to put pressure on league leaders Selby Olympia (who were involved in the County Cup) when beaten 4-2 at fifth placed Bramham.

The game was close at half-time – with the teams going in level at 1-1 – but Bramham came out stronger in the second half to take all three points courtesy of goals from Chris Plews, Tom Wilson, Anthony Walsh and Josh Wilson.

Third placed Haxby United won 4-2 at home to next-to-bottom Rawcliffe Crusaders.

Haxby’s goals were scored by Billy Lindsell, Will Plews, Tom Maskell and Matt Boggan.

Fourth placed Beeswing won 4-1 at home to Elmpark courtesy of goals from Alex Day, Danny Phillips, Craig Atkin and Kirk Stevens. Ellis Turpine scored the consolation goal for Elmpark.

A local rivalry between two teams that play at the same venue saw York Medics taking on Wentworth.

The game was close throughout with the score 3-2 to York Medics at half-time. Both sides scored the same amount of goals in the second half as they did in the first to make it 6-4 to Medics.

Matthew Fortnam and Elliot Jones-Williams both bagged braces for Medics while Alex Renwick and Jasaren Grewal were also on target. Alex Bonsall scored twice for Wentworth with further goals from Dom Green and Peter Baird.
