YORK City Ladies moved up to fifth place in the North East Regional Women's Premier Division after a 3-1 victory against Wakefield Ladies at Haxby Road.

The Minsterbelles' victory was secured thanks to goals from Lucy Lendhill, Kayleigh Davis, and Ellie Regan. The result also marked a degree of revenge for the team's a 4-2 defeat at Wakefield just two weeks ago.

Midfielder Nikki Brown was named as player of the game in only her third appearance since returning.

Player-manager Ruth Brazier said: "We are delighted with the win especially having lost to Wakefield last time out. It was fantastic to have a couple of key players back. They really made a difference. But everyone really performed. Hopefully, we can use this to kick on and finish the season strongly.”

York City Ladies Reserves, meanwhile, are still second in the Northern Division after a 2-0 victory at Cramlington United Ladies.

Prolific striker Sophie Tinson was on target for the fifth game in a row, to take her personal tally to 17 goals this season, and Ellie Randall grabbed her 15th goal of the campaign to secure the team's tenth win in 15 games.

Midfielder Mille Templeman and Randall were named joint players of the game.
