YORK's under-11 schoolboys extended their 100 per cent record in the regional league thanks to a 2-1 home victory over Leeds 'A' at York University.
Leeds started the brighter of the two teams and a poor defensive clearance put York in trouble; goalkeeper George Brown was unable to prevent Leeds taking the lead.
Brown suffered an injury and was replaced by Henry Jackson.
York began to assert themselves on the game with Jamie Hudson, Jack Whalen and Liam Mainprize winning the midfield battles.
Adam Clarkson beat off two challenges and popped the ball out to prolific striker Ronnie Kelly who equalised from 10 yards.
At halftime, York introduced Bobby Boyson, Dylan Jones and Noah Morgan. The fresh legs helped maintain York’s intensity and, after a succession of corners, Hudson chested down and drove home the winning goal.
Leeds battled until the final whistle but outstanding defending from Ben Myers, Ryan Evans and York’s man of the match Paul Iggulden ensured York held on for the win.
York will now travel to Scarborough for their final league game knowing they have qualified for the next stage of the regional competition.
