A GOAL by Jordan Outerbridge gave the York Minster Engineering League Representative Team a narrow victory over Premier League champions Old Malton Saint Marys at Wiggington Recreation Ground.

For a pre-season fixture, the game was played like a cup final with both teams intent on playing good football and passing high on the agenda.

The first chance fell to OMSM after 10 mins when a free kick from Daniel Pedros flew just wide.

Scott Nichols of OMSM nearly got on the end of a cross from Connor Shipley and a good scoring chance was missed.

The Reps had a good chance after Ben Gill in the OMSM goal mis-placed a pass to Shipley and the interception by Outerbridge resulted in his first time effort skimming the bar.

Outerbridge was in the action again soon afterwards but was unfortunate to see a deft chip come back off the bar.

Nuttall had a good run down the left but his his attempted cross was wide of the target.

The winger tried to make amends but his deflected effort from the edge of the box was well saved by Lock.

OMSM enjoyed the better of the first half although the Reps defence was coping well with Matty Pallister and Aaron Reid growing in confidence as the game progressed.

Goalless at the interval, it soon became the 'Pedros and Outerbridge show' with both players having lots of possession and creating chances.

A pass from Pedros was intercepted by new signing Grant Bulmer, who impressed at the centre of the OMSM defence, just as midfielder Liam Olson looked set to convert.

Pedros presented Josh Luckhurst with a half chance but he was tackled by Calum Scott on the edge of the six yard box.

The deadlock was finally broken after 60 minutes when Pedros found Outerbridge on the edge of the box and his brilliant dribbling skill took him past three defenders before firing a low angled shot beyond the advancing Gill.

The Reps midfield of Holden, Bilton, Olson and Sanderson needed to work hard to contain the pressure from OMSM and, after some good work by Bilton, Outerbridge was sent clear down the right but shot wide.

The final action of the game was at the OMSM end when Outerbridge and Pedros linked again but the final shot by Pedros was blocked.

Overall it was an entertaining game well officiated by referee John Hamm and assistants Andy Luff and Peter Hartley.

The Bryan Shearer Memorial Trophy was presented to winning captain Matty Pallister by the League Vice President Bill Pearce.
