"IF the footballers go easy on us in the first half, we'll be less brutal in the second."

That's the tongue-in-cheek warning from Selby Warriors rugby league players ahead of their charity clash of codes with Riccall United football team.

The game takes place at Riccall Regent Centre on Landing Lane tomorrow at 1pm and will see a first half played under round-ball rules followed by a second half of 13-a-side oval ball rugby league, with a goal or try worth one point each.

The match will raise funds for North Yorkshire Horizons, a charity that helps alcoholics and drug addicts get back on their feet.

Organiser David Jackson, 28, used to play for the Warriors in Pennine League rugby but now plays for York Minster Engineering League footballers Riccall. He'll be back turning out for the Warriors tomorrow "just to be on the safe side".

"I'm going on holiday soon and I'd prefer to go in once piece," he joked.

"The rugby league players said if the footballers go easy on them at football, they won't be as brutal in the rugby league."

Admission is free but volunteers will be going round with bucket collections, while the players themselves are also paying to play. There has also been sponsorship and a raffle will be held.
