YORK’s first Powerchair Football Festival attracted more than 30 people at Acomb’s Energise Sports Centre.

Offering players of all ages, with a physical disability, the chance to take part and enjoy the sport, the Festival was organised by Jorvik Warriors, York’s very own Powerchair Football Club.

Participants were also encouraged to take up the sport by joining the Warriors, while players from clubs in Middlesbrough, Leeds, Hull and Rotherham also attended.

The event was supported by City of York Council’s sport and active leisure team and Cllr Nigel Ayre, executive member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “The Festival was a fantastic showcase for sport and the level of enthusiasm from players and supporters was amazing.

“Taking part in sport as part of a team offers real physical, psychological and social benefits, both on and off the pitch. We’re very pleased to support the development of the Jorvik Warriors and wish them continued success in the sport.”
