TADCASTER ALBION boss Billy Miller is eyeing League Cup final glory, writes Ross Kennerley

The Brewers face their first competitive match since the middle of last month when they enter the competition at the third round stage - where they will face familiar opponents.

Taddy were last in action in a 1-1 draw at Parkgate in the Northern Counties East League premier division and it is to the Rotherham-based club they will travel again tomorrow night.

Miller can boast a full strength squad for the match, which could see Jonathan Greening make his second appearance for the club, and has labelled the tie a “good opportunity” for his side as they find themselves thrown straight into a later stage of the event following their performances last season.

Parkgate's draw with Tadcaster was their first point in the league in nine matches.

With Albion leading the league going into the match and Parkgate sitting second bottom it is an encounter where Albion will be considered favourites, but Miller is refusing to take the opposition lightly.

“We played them in our last match a few weeks ago and they played well,” he said. “They got an early goal and from then on it was like the Alamo, I think we had 14 shots on target until we got the late penalty to equalise.”

The weather has meant Albion have been out of action but they have still trained during that period, with their indoor facilities at Askham Bryan College allowing them to continue their preparations.

And while they could be forgiven for wanting to focus on claiming the league this season, Miller says he will field a full strength side against Parkgate.

“We haven’t played for some time so we’ll bring a full squad as it’s a competition we take very seriously as we’d love to make it to the final,” he explained.

After the League Cup third round tie against Parkgate Albion will face an away trip to Maltby Main, who sit 15th in the league table.

With the club looking down on the rest of the league, Miller says his side have a real belief this could be their year: “There is not just a belief amongst the squad but a general belief around the club that we can do it this year.

“However in this league you can’t manufacture results. Footballers are people and people make mistakes so we’re not getting too carried away but we’ll take each game as it comes and see where we are at the end of the season.”
