JONATHAN GREENING will turn his attentions to a promotion battle after re-signing for Tadcaster Albion.

The midfielder, who left York City by mutual consent earlier in the month, has rejoined his brother Josh at the Brewers and will help spearhead their push for the Northern Counties East League premier division title.

Greening, who is expected to be in the squad that goes to Pontefract Collieries on Saturday, said: "I contacted the chairman, Matt (Gore), and was really pleased that the club wanted me as they are currently top of the league and are flying. If I can help them achieve promotion it would be fantastic.

"Hopefully my experience of winning promotion in the professional game will support the club's ambition for this season.

"My family and my sons in particular are over the moon I have returned to Taddy as they love coming down to the i2i Stadium."

Manager Billy Miller said: β€œIt’s a brilliant signing for us, look at the experience already within the squad and adding Jonathan to it will only enhance the team all round.

"Obviously having previously held a coaching role with York, this builds on the wealth of experience that we currently have at the club.

"It is also a much needed lift for the club after the awful events in Tadcaster over the recent days.”

Gore added: "It's fantastic news for everyone involved with Tadcaster Albion. Jono contacted us early in the week and we didn't hesitate in securing his signature. He is superb on and off the pitch.

"To have a Manchester United treble winner and West Bromwich Albion captain in your team is quite something. I saw him play recently for York City and he was outstanding.

"Last season he gave the club a real boost and we know he will have the same impact again."

Albion's Ings Lane ground has been under water but the Brewers are still expecting to be match sharp when they travel to Pontefract.

Miller and his squad train at Askham Bryan College, where the manager works, and he believes that could be a huge benefit for his side as they take on outfits who have been hindered by the flooding carnage.

"Training has not been a problem," he said. "We have been at Askham Bryan College so there has been no drama there. Teams won't have trained because they have been cut off but we haven't missed a week and that will be huge for us.

"It's a phenomenal facility and, at this time of the season, it comes into its own."

Albion's last game at Garforth Town was postponed but the club benefited from the results of other matches and now stand proudly at the summit and are unable to be caught by others with games in hand.

Miller said: "Everyone else has played now and the league has sorted itself out. At this moment, no one can catch us but I think there will be a few more twists and turns.

"At this stage, we are top of the league because we have played well up. We have got to try and maintain that. Every game we go into now we have to be fully prepared."

Miller is without Gregg Anderson but can otherwise call on a full squad.

Scarborough Athletic club chairman Dave Holland said he has already received 40 expressions of interest for the manager's job after Bryan Hughes and Paul Foot left the club by mutual consent.

Matty Bloor and Chris Bolder were in charge for the Seadogs' 2-1 defeat at Brighouse Town on Monday and the club now host Northwich Victoria in Evo-Stik first division north.

Harrogate Railway are at Witton Athletic, while Knaresborough Town are at Bottesford Town in NCEL division one. Harrogate Town, beaten 4-2 by Chorley last time out, host Stockport County - whom they beat 2-1 on Boxing Day - in National League North.
