TADCASTER ALBION returned to the summit of the Northern Counties East League premier division after a 4-0 victory over Thackley.

They were set on their way after Adam Baker netted two superb finishes in the first nine minutes and the game was effectively over in the 54th minute as Josh Greening fired into the bottom corner.

Victory was rubber-stamped six minutes from time when Gregg Anderson scored on his home debut.

Carl Stewart came into the side for his first start of the season and he left his man brilliantly down the left-hand side before playing the ball inside to Greening with only a couple of minutes on the clock.

The latter shifted possession to Baker, who smashed a shot back across goal into the bottom corner.

Jimmy Beadle then tried to catch the goalkeeper off his line from 40 yards before the Brewers went 2-0 up.

Beadle fired the ball over the top for Baker and, as the keeper advanced, the Taddy player touched the ball over him and headed into the net for his 11th goal of the campaign.

Stewart nearly added to the tally shortly afterwards - his bent shot dramatically pushed over the crossbar.

Manager Billy Miller's men were completely comfortable and they came close to netting a third shortly after the half hour mark as Liam Ormsby's free-kick bounced off the Thackley wall and into the path of Greening, who struck just off target.

Greening came close once more shortly afterwards before Beadle nearly scored with an incredible acrobatic effort as the home side led 2-0 at the break.

It should have been 3-0 just a couple of minutes into the second half as full-back Jordan Armstrong did brilliantly to pick out Greening but his shot was kept out.

Eager to get on the scoresheet, though, Greening did find the back of the net in the 59th minute.

He controlled the ball on the right-hand side of the penalty area, shaped up his man, performed three step-overs to and then fired into the bottom corner.

With half an hour gone of the second half, substitute Nick Black came close to adding his name to the scorer's list.

Beadle tried to bulldoze his way through the Thackley defence and, when this eventually broke down, the ball rolled out to Black, who curled inches wide with a left-footed shot.

He had an even better chance to make it 4-0 when sent clean through on goal but his skidded shot was thwarted by the Thackley number one.

It was a matter of how many goals it would end on and Dan Clayton whipped in a looping cross onto the head of Beadle but Tyler D'Cruz in the Thackley goal pulled off an incredible save to tip over the crossbar.

With six minutes to go, the Brewers did finally make it 4-0 as Gregg Anderson found the net.

Beadle floated in a corner which Anderson headed goalwards. Byron Littlefair cleared off the line but the linesman flagged that the ball had crossed the line and the goal was given.
