BRITANNIA Tadcaster beat Hambleton 4-2 in the only game played in York Sunday Morning League division one last weekend.

Most of the top-tier teams were in York FA cup action, but there was a different story in division two with five games played.

York Phoenix extended their record to five wins from six matches with a 3-1 victory over Wentworth.

Phoenix took the lead from a well-struck shot from Danny Phillips. Wentworth then missed a penalty before Mike Tansey scored with a perfectly placed header to give Phoenix a 2-0 half-time lead.

In the second half, Phoenix missed a penalty of their own before substitute Nick Boldison made it 3-0. Joe Brennan scored an injury-time consolation.

NUR went ahead against York Wanderers when Mike Evans fired past the keeper at his near post.

Two goalkeeping errors made it 2-1 to Wanderers at half-time but NUR regained their composure to equalise through a Nicky Fletcher free-kick.

A thumping header from Aiden Ward made it 3-2 to NUR, who took the spoils to remain three points behind York Phoenix with a game in hand.

York Medics rose to fourth with a 5-1 victory over Thorpe United.

Elliot Jones-Williams put Medics in front early on, but Sean Gandy levelled. Medics dominated the last hour, though, as Jones-Williams completed his hat-trick and Leo Watton and Jack Buchanan also netted.

An entertaining game was played between Knapton Lions and Brayton, with both teams’ failure to defend costing them the opportunity to take all three points.

After dominating the first 15 minutes, Brayton opened the scoring with a 20-yard rocket from Joe Krygsman.

Knapton came back and equalised following a neat finish into the bottom corner from Danny Barret.

In the second half, a goalkeeping error left Paul McGuinness with an easy finish before Krygsman finished a good passing move to put Brayton 3-1 ahead.

A defensive error let in Callum Watson to make it 3-2 before Barret raced away to produce a spectacular lob and gain the first point of the season for Knapton.

Janos Takacs and Matthew Howden gave Selby Olympia a two-goal cushion against Beeswing, but Mark Sapwell’s clinical finish gave the York side hope.

Nick Horne then made it 2-2 at the interval but Olympia responded and went 3-2 up through Andrew White. Sam Adjare finished off a good team move to make it 3-3 before substitute Max Chambers edged Selby ahead again.

Minutes from time, Beeswing nicked a point, bringing the score back to 4-4 thanks to a thunderous 35-yard drive from Sapwell.
