HUNTINGTON Rovers continue to set the pace at the top of the York Minster Engineering Premier League after a 3-2 victory over a determined Copmanthorpe side.

After an even first half hour, Rovers took the lead through a fortunate goal when Chris Dyson volleyed a cross into the path of Lee Jackson, the ball bouncing off the player and into the net.

Five minutes before the break, Danny Snaith produced a neat finish to double their lead and the game looked dead and buried when James Edmond passed the ball into an empty net to make it 3-0.

But Cop came back strongly in the final 30 minutes and scored twice.

It was third against second at Wigginton where Grasshoppers hosted York RI.

The opening 15 minutes saw RI largely in control of the game, with Michael Clancy making two point blank saves, though both sides were guilty of missing chances as defences started the day on top.

It was Wigginton who forged ahead, against the run of play, as Josh Luckhurst fed Jamie Willstrop and the winger made no mistake with his finish.

Willstrop returned the favour for Luckhurst as Wiggy went 2-0 ahead, before Luke Roberts fired home a penalty to make it 3-0.

Neale Holmes then finished off a good team move and Matthew Tiplady found the net after his shot was misjudged by Carl Welch in the RI goal to make it 5-0 at the break.

The second half saw the hosts double their tally with some fantastic efforts, the pick being a volley from Holmes. Luckhurst and Tiplady also grabbed a second with Mike Byram and an own goal completing their haul.

Leigh Dutton scored with two excellent strikes in reply but it finished 10-2 to Wigginton.

F1 Racing moved up into fourth place after they came from behind to take the points at home to Osbaldwick.

The visitors took the lead early in the game through Mike Hattee but Chris Dempsey fired an equaliser just before the break. After an even second period, Dempsey added his second in the closing minutes.

Dringhouses took a decisive two-goal lead at home to Dunnington thanks to a Dave Watson strike and a Sam Lake penalty. Grant Bulmer struck for the visitors to make it 2-1 at half-time but James Robinson scored the only game of the second period as Dringhouses emerged 3-1 winners.

Ian Beckram found the net for defending champions Riccall as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Old Malton St Mary’s.

Brooklyn outclassed Harrison Signs, demolishing their opposition 10-1. Mikey Brown hit a hat-trick in the win, with Andy Metcalfe (2), Matty Webster, George Kirk, Ryan Gaughan and Kristian Wilkinson also making the scoresheet. Tom Shirley hit a late reply for Signs.
