QUAKERWOOD moved up to second in the top flight of the York Sunday Morning League after a hard fought 4-2 win at Dunnington.

The home side found themselves 2-0 in front after 20 minutes, Simon Castle and Harry Lynn hitting the net early in the game.

But free-scoring Quaker striker Carl Stewart found the target after his deflected shot evaded the Dunnington keeper to put the Acomb side back in the game just before the break.

Quakerwood had most of the attacking play in the second half and were rewarded when Alex Day beat three players and crossed for sub Nick McBride to slot home.

The visitors piled on the pressure and Stewart grabbed his second of the game, rounding two players before hammering an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

Tommy Medd stepped up to hit Quakerwood's fourth and seal an important three points for their title challenge.

The home side started the stronger but as Phoenix grew into the game they created chances and went into the lead through a Brayton own goal.

Despite further chances for both teams, Phoenix held on gamely for the victory.
