CHAMPIONS Riccall United bounced back to form with a 3-2 victory over leaders Wigginton Grasshoppers in the York Minster Engineering League premier division.

For the early part of the game, the result had looked unlikely with the home side bossing matters and taking the lead after some good close control from Neale Holmes allowed him to wrong foot the Riccall keeper and slot home.

Jamie Willstrop then raced onto a Tom Derbyshire flick on to double 'Hoppers' advantage as it all seemed to be plain-sailing for the home side.

But Riccall dug deep and enjoyed the better of the last 15 minutes of the first half, Wayne Brook making it 2-1 after his low free-kick found its way through a gap in the Wiggy wall and went straight in at the near post.

The second half saw a completely different game as Riccall looked like a different side.

They seized control of the game and Luke Durham made it 2-2 ten minutes into the half. As Riccall pressed forward, it was simply a question of when they would score a third, and not if, and it was Wayne Brook's second free-kick of the match that finally provided the answer.

A late rally from the home side was not enough as Riccall left with a 3-2 win and the all important three points.

Huntington Rovers moved up to second with a 5-2 win over F1 Racing. James Edmond opened the scoring with an early goal, only for F1 to equalise through Danny Penrose. Chris Dyson restored Rovers' lead with a well taken penalty but Liam Ling levelled the scores again just before the break.

The second half belonged to Rovers with three further goals through Edmond, Dyson and then Edmond again, who struck a brilliant volley from edge of the area with the aid of the crossbar, to complete his hat trick.

F1 rallied, but could not match Huntington's firepower and lost their second game in succession - for the first time in three years.

Dunnington are now in third place after a 3-1 home win over Copmanthorpe. They took the lead in the first half but Nick May found the target to bring Cop back level before the break. Two more Dunnington goals secured the points in the second half. Dan Andrew and Martin Day (2) were on target for Dunnington.

Harrison Signs beat Brooklyn 6-3. The Malton side went 1-0 up after a minute but Signs turned it around to lead 3-1 at the interval.

The home side then increased their lead to 5-1 before a late flurry of goals in the last ten minutes.

Tom Shaw (2), Neil Fryirs, Adam Osguthorpe, Neil Richardson and Cameron Sanderson were on the mark for RI, with Mikey Brown (2) and Mikey Clarke sharing Brooklyn's haul.

A Leigh Dutton hat-trick proved the difference between York RI and Dringhouses as the former won 5-2.

Josh Coulson and Darren Sellers also hit the target for RI with Dringhouses goals coming from a Sam Lake penalty and Matthew Mulhearn.

Cliffe down Easingwold to hit division one summit

CLIFFE set the pace in York Minster Engineering League division one after a 4-1 win at Easingwold Town.

Andy Addison (2), Jamie England and Kevin Taylor struck for the away side with Robbie Palmer finding the net for Easingwold.

Jack Overton and Tom Knowles fired home Pocklington’s goals as they gained a 2-0 success over Rawcliffe.

There were eight goals at division two Strensall, with the home side gaining a 5-3 win over visitors Stamford Bridge.

Liam Wingfield hit a hat-trick and Josh Winn a brace to give their side victory while Darren Brandon struck a hat-trick of his own for Stamford Bridge.

Dale Waddington hit the target for Haxby United at home to Kirkbymoorside but it was not enough as the visitors left with a 2-1 triumph.

New boys Pollington opened their division four account with an impressive 10-1 demolition of LNER Builders.

Mark Baguley struck a fantastic double hat-trick in the win, with Dave Melville, Stuart Harrison and Rob Page (2) also finding the net.

Likewise, Malt Shovel, playing their first game in the league, gained an 11-1victory over New York WMC.

Dan Hunter (2), Shane Bogg, Arron Rose and Liam Brown were on target for The Raj FC as they gained three points from a 5-3 win over Howden Academy.

James Smith bagged a brace and Ben Bailey and George Ledley single strikes as Wheldrake defeated Crayke 4-3. Heworth Green won 4-1 at Wetherby Athletic and Settrington triumphed 3-0 at home to Huntington.

Wigginton Grasshoppers won 9-3 against Copmanthorpe as the first Reserve ‘A’ fixtures got under way.

James Sutton struck four goals for the home side with Sam Jeffery, James Hopwood, Jack Green, Callan Blackstock and James Ellerby also making the score sheet.

Terry Hibbett, Oliver Baron and Sam Fox replied. Louis Blackwell, Martin Howson and Bayley Smirthwaite hit Riccall’s goals as they defeated Thorpe United 3-1.

Kingsley Daffern, Liam Burdett and an own goal supplemented a stunning 40-yard Ryan Cooper strike as Malton and Norton defeated Hemingbrough 3-1 in Reserve ‘B’.

Bishopthorpe United beat Hamilton Panthers by the same 3-1 scoreline.

In Reserve ‘C’, Connor Larner gave Civil Service a 1-0 half-time lead over Malt Shovel before adding a second early in the second period.

Jason Hogg, Tom Wright and Joe Hamilton also struck as Civil Service won 5-0. Cliffe and F1 Racing played out a goalless draw.
