TRAILING 2-0 close to half-time, Tadcaster Albion were given a lift by a superb save by Gary Stevens at Clipstone.

The Brewers, who needed to step up a couple of gears in the second half in this Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division clash, and they did so, rescuing a point with a wonderful Josh Greening goal with seconds remaining.

He brought the ball down with his chest 15 yards into the Clipstone half, advanced, took it past one black and white shirt, did a lovely stepover to fool another black and white defender and smashed an unstoppable shot with his weaker right foot into the back of the net.

Albion manager Billy Miller made one change from last Tuesday night's victory over Bridlington Town, with George Conway dropping to the bench to be replaced by Nick Black.

Newly-promoted Clipstone, who had taken ten points from their opening five matches, took the lead in the sixth minute, full back Brad Jones floating a cross into the box which crept over Andy Milne's head for Henry Sibenge to squeeze the ball past Stevens.

The host, who played some terrific stuff in the first half, doubled their lead in the 22nd minute in controversial fashion, Adam Somes being one of the three players waiting to tap the ball home while every Brewers player appealed for offside.

James Ashmore, with a 30-yarder which Stevens did well to palm away and another effort from close range which Stevens did brilliantly to save threatened to extend the Cobras' lead but there was also a chance at the other end, Adam Baker volleying wildly over from close range.

Albion came close to pulling a goal back in the 52nd minute, Jimmy Beadle's shot squirming under Steve Hernandez's body but out for a corner.

Despite losing Liam Ormsby with a pulled hamstring, his replacement Conway made it 2-1 with a sweet volley, and man of the match Beadle looked like either scoring or creating the equaliser until Greening's late magic.

There were FA Vase first-qualifying round defeats for Pickering Town (2-1 at Norton & Stockton Ancients) and Knaresborough Town (4-1 at Hebburn Town), but there was no such sadness for Selby Town.

Kingsley Wetherald notched a double hat-trick in their 12-0 home romp against Askern, other goals coming from Craig Muirhead, Ashley Hope, Tom Chamberlain, William Pepper, Martin Jones and Dane Mortimer.
