OLD Malton St Mary’s stepped their York Minster Engineering Football League premier division title charge as they crushed Tadcaster Magnets 6-0.

The defending champions dealt a hammer blow to the ambitions of top flight debutants Magnets, who had lost only once before their trip to Ryedale.

Dean Nuttall’s corner hit a post and Taddy were denied by an offside flag before Old Malton took the lead on five minutes when Steve Baxter’s dangerous cross was diverted home by a defender.

Baxter then broke through and crossed for Tom Fenwick to beat the keeper with a near post flick.

Player manager Darren Dunning, on for the injured Danny Fogg, stabbed home following a scramble, only for Saints’ celebrations to be cut short for an offside flag.

Shortly afterwards, Daman Cox broke forward and timed his pass for Dunning to blast into the top corner.

A fantastic tackle from Paul Hodgson kept Magnets off the scoresheet and then Baxter flicked a near post header into the net from a corner.

Nuttall fired a 20-yard first time volley into the bottom corner and, after a fine one-on- one save by Malton’s Ben Gill, Fenwick was fouled in the box and sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Despite unbeaten Old Malton’s six-point lead, Riccall United are refusing to give up the chase as they beat Huntington Rovers 3-2 thanks to a brace from Ian Beckram and a strike from Wayne Brook.

Rovers, reduced to ten men late on, had John James and Kieran Flanagan on target.

Terrington Glory gained a shock 6-2 victory over Dunnington at Common Road.

Johnny Brown gave Glory the lead and, after Scott Sullivan hit the target for the hosts, Alex Yates (2), Josh Ward and Ben Richardson made it 5-1.

Olly Newby’s penalty made it 5-2, but Josh Ward completed an excellent day for Terrington.

Tom Coates sent Wigginton into an early lead at Dringhouses before Wilson Briggs calmly slotted home to bring the sides level after 15 minutes.

Just before the interval, Coates put Jamie Willstrop through and the midfielder rifled a left-foot shot into the bottom corner.

In the second period, Josh Luckhurst extended Wiggy’s lead before Tom Metcalfe made it 4-1 against his former club and Willstrop got his second goal.

Easingwold Town finally got their first point of the season but were denied all three when a last-minute Chris Bilton penalty spared Osbaldwick’s blushes.

Hosts Osso took a sixth-minute lead through Mike Hattee but Simon Webster levelled after 38 minutes.

Rohan Corriette then found the net after 65 minutes to set up a winning position for Easingwold before Bilton’s late spot kick.

Copmanthorpe trounced York RI 5-1 to move up to seventh thanks to a Jack Scott hat-trick and goals from Danny Leach and Mark Featherstone. Mark Woodward replied for RI.
