YORK City Ladies were thrashed 7-0 at high-flying Barnsley.

The visitors made a bright start to the game with Nikki Brown firing too high from a corner but the Tykes forged into a 2-0 first-half lead and also hit the bar before the break.

City also kicked off the second period promisingly with a good move involving Jazz Whitwell and Kayleigh Davies leading to a chance for Kate Duckworth, who was unlucky to hit the side-netting.

But that was as good as it got for the Minster ladies, who shipped five more goals without reply.

Meanwhile, Sammi Terry hit a hat-trick as City reserves romped to an 11-0 victory at Brompton.

Braces were also bagged by Ellie Randall and top scorer Hollie Smith with Rachel Harding, Georgia Marsden, Amy Smith, Becca Dawson and Jenna Strain completing the scoring.

Randall struck first with a composed finish into the bottom corner after only four minutes before Harding marked her return from injury with a second.

With Strain, Marsden, Amy Roberts and Sophie Parrish ensuring the visitors attacked from the back, Randall and Holly Smith doubled that lead.

Marsden then found the top left-hand corner and Hollie Smith made it 6-0 by the break.

Half-time substitute Amy Smith wasted no time in netting with her second kick of the match while Terry hit the target. A pinpoint corner saw player-of-the-game Dawson head in an eighth and Strain then notched.

Terry went on to finish the rout with two later goals - one from the penalty spot.
