CHAMPIONS Old Malton St Mary's returned to the top of the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division with a gutsy 3-0 win over Wigginton Grasshoppers.

The visitors made Saints work hard for the points and put their hosts under pressure for much of the opening half hour, carving out several chances to take the lead.

The best of those opportunities was an audacious 20-yard curling drive from Matt Tiplady which rattled Old Malton's crossbar.

However, the champions proved exactly why they hold that title and weathered the storm before Callum Scott headed them in front on the half hour mark.

Old Malton broke the visitors' resolve moments into the second half when Tom Fenwick cut through Wiggy's back line to slot home.

Player-manager Darren Dunning put the icing on the cake, adding his team's third late in the game.

Huntington Rovers moved up to fifth with a comprehensive 7-0 demolition of Easingwold Town.

Lee Bunce rounded off a first half hat-trick with a superb individual effort before Chris Dyson matched the feat in the second period.

James Edmond fired home Rovers' seventh.

Chris Storey and Matty Pallister grabbed the all-important goals as Copmanthorpe gained a 2-1 win at Poppleton United, for whom Alex Janes hit the target.

Dringhouses leapfrogged Osbaldwick following a 5-2 triumph over their hosts.

Mike Hattee and Matt Hattee struck for Osbaldwick, but goals from Tommy Medd (2), Sam Ripley-Kitson, James Robinson and Liam Robertson propelled Houses up to ninth position.

Mark Woodward collected a brace before seeing red as York RI gained a point from a 3-3 draw at Terrington Glory.

Darren Sellars hit the visitors' third, with Matty Bower, Johnny Brown and Ollie Varley netting for the home side.
