PICKERING Town fans had to endure a nail-biting afternoon before seeing their side scrape into the third round of the Northern Counties East League Cup.

Alex Mathie's side were behind early on as Will Tomlinson struck for Retford. There were just ten minutes remaining when Liam Salt netted the equaliser to take the tie into extra time.

The Pikes looked as though they were going to go through on the back of Ricky Greening's 105th-minute goal but, with the finishing line in sight, Karl Colley netted for the Nottinghamshire visitors to take the game to penalties.

Pickering keep their nerve, winning 4-2 on spot-kicks.

Selby Town made it five wins a row with a 2-1 victory over Armthorpe Welfare.

The Robins started well but had to wait until the 34th minute before they took the lead when Tom Adams volleyed home from 15 yards. Two minutes later Selby went further in front when Joe Connor thundered in a 25-yard shot which went in off the underside of the bar.

Andy Hart curled a free-kick against the post in the 55th minute but the Doncaster side made the Robins work hard for the rest of the game and they pulled a goal back in the 84th minute when Craig Morley headed in.

Tadcaster Albion were knocked out 2-1 by fellow division one side Lincoln Moorlands, Dan Boneman netting the Tad goal.

Harrogate Railway slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Woodley Sports in the UniBond League first division. Scott Ryan scored Rail's consolation in the 81st minute.

Rail were hit by two goals in as many minutes midway through the second half when Danny Queeley and Mario Sergio Daniel put the Steelmen in charge. Gavin Salmon made it 3-0 before Ryan's goal, but Salmon's second wrapped up a easy win.

Former York City striker Lee Nogan was among the scorers as Whitby Town moved up to fourth place in the UniBond League premier division with a 4-2 victory at Radcliffe Borough.

Tadcaster Albion Under-19s entertain Selby Town U19s in a top-of-the-table Yorkshire youth league clash tonight (ko 7.45pm).
