HARROGATE Town's Nationwide North promotion drive stalled in the final minute at Scarborough.

The home side snatched a last-gasp penalty to force a 1-1 draw - an award disputed by Town boss Neil Aspin.

But the Wetherby Road chief reckoned a draw was a fair result.

His side had gone ahead after only two minutes when Boro goalkeeper Mark Wilberforce sent his goalkick straight to Darren Dunning and the former York City midfielder chipped the ball straight back over Wilberforce into an empty net.

That looked as though it would be enough to give Town a victory which would have lifted them to third place in the table, but there was a dramatic climax to the game.

Ninty minutes were on the clock when Jamie Price was penalised for tugging Lee Whittingham's shirt and Chris Thompson netted from the spot to salvage a point for bottom club Boro.

A disappointed Aspin said: "There was minimal contact and not a great deal of appeals from them and it was a real kick in the teeth. It's two points dropped but on the balance of play I wouldn't say we deserved all three points."

After Dunning's opener, Boro's Tony Hackworth drew a fine save from James Lindley with a 25-yard shot, while Danny Holland went close to making it 2-0 when he shot straight at Wilberforce after getting the better of Mark Hotte.
