IT was all change at the top of division one of the HPH York Vale Cricket League as Copmanthorpe moved into pole position.

Deposed leaders Bishopthorpe paid for a poor batting display as they crashed at home by eight wickets to North Cave after being put in and being bowled out for 102. Cave all-rounder Mike Stellings notched 55 not out to add to his 3-13.

That opened the door for Cop who saw off Clifton Alliance by seven wickets, Salman Syed (44no) hitting the winning runs.

Tight bowling, led by Dan Fairclough (4-42), saw Burn bowled out for 142 as Stockton won by six wickets with eight overs to spare to stay very much in the title race.

Hemingbrough spinner Rob Peet (4-24) claimed his second four-wicket haul against Barmby Moor this season as the hosts were bowled out for 161, Andrew Winn making 74. An opening stand of 82 between Luke Alderidge (45) and Matt Milburn (38) put Hemingbrough on the road to victory.

Wheldrake dropped into the relegation zone after crashing to a 62-run home defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Ben Johnson, whose Jamie Agnew shone with 4-36 and the top match score of 40.

Division two leaders Ovington succesfully defended 116 at third-placed Askham Bryan who could not cope with Paul Mizon (5-28).

Sam Dunn (5-30) capitalised on a wet pitch at Fulfordgate where the hosts were bowled out by promotion-chasing Hirst Courtney, who knocked the runs off for the loss of just one wicket.

University of York Staff’s long wait for a win came to an end at Heworth where Muhammed Suleman (39 and 4-29) shone in a 54-run win.

Westow’s Andrew Welford (75) helped his side to a tight two-wicket win against Kelfield who posted 155-8 thanks to a lightning 63 from 35 balls by Matt Walker.

Selby’s big-hitting Scott Smith smashed five sixes in his match-winning 86 as his side overhauled Woodhouse Grange’s 214-8 by one wicket with two balls to spare despite the best efforts of Scott Shepherd (7-47) and Luke Cattle (85).

Thorpe Willoughby extended their lead at the top of division three as Nadeem Shefta’s unbeaten 70 took his side to victory at Stillingfleet.

After a couple of lean years, North Duffield are showing signs of improvement and enjoyed a spectacular 178-run win against Goole as John Patrick returned amazing figures of 8.3-1-22-7 as ten-man Goole were bowled out for 55.

Opener Joe Whale (73no) batted right through Ovington II’s innings for the second time this season as they crushed Wheldrake II in division four, Graham Haigh taking 6-28.

Heworth II endured a nightmare day at Copmanthorpe II, being skittled for just 31 as Alistair Byers took 5-6 from eight overs.

Despite 85 from Will Fisher, division five promotion hopefuls Thorp Arch & Boston Spa lost at Pockington by two wickets.

That defeat saw Pock’s neighbours Yapham tuck into second spot behind South Cave & Brantingham after they won at Tadcaster Magnet where leading wicketkeeper Dan Edwards took 5-23.

• The Press has been asked to point out that Ovington were banned from playing at their Little Knavesmire base due to a dangerous ground, as opposed to a dangerous pitch.
