ASKHAM Bryan made the most of a weakened Stockton & Hopgrove by smashing them to all parts of the Malton Road sports field.

The chief beneficiary was Steve Drake, who rattled up 138 as 10-man Stockton, without a frontline bowler, could not prevent Askham making a mammoth 308-5 in their HPH York Vale Cricket League fixture.

Openers Adrian Stipetic (42) and Phil Allen (24) laid the foundations with a stand of 74 before Parag Mohite (41) and Drake maintained the high tempo.

Stockton’s Richard Kerrison battled his way to 92 to see his side to maximum batting points, but they still lost by 97 runs.

Ovington bounced back from last week’s first-day defeat at the hands of Burn to beat Westow by seven wickets.

Westow openers Andrew Welford (71no) and Mark Earle (35) rattled along at six an over until change bowlers Neil Metcalfe and Barry Steel applied the brakes to restrict the village side to 156-6. Pete Kelly (56) and Craig Nicoll blasted a rapid half-century to finish the game with 10 overs to spare.

Burn were left to regret putting Kelfield in as they did not manage a breakthrough until the 24th over by which time Andy Charlton (49) and Craig Lawson had piled up 128.

A partnership of 106 between Lawson and Sam Dunn (63) followed, Lawson powering to 108 from 116 balls as Kelfield set 272 to win.

A stand of 105 between Lee Adamson (87), who struck 14 fours and a maximum, and Adrian Hewitson (26) gave Burn hope but their last six wickets fell for 18 runs. Lawson completed a brilliant all-round display with 5-34 from 9.4 overs as Kelfield won by 80 runs.

Accurate Melbourne bowling strangled Ben Johnson’s batting with only Martin Reynolds (51) shining in a modest 135-5. In reply, Tim Blackmore fell to a golden duck but Joss Room (46), Ben Shingles (40) and Oliver Steels (36) enabled Melbourne to knock off the runs in the 31st over.

In division two, Thixendale’s 176-7 against Stamford Bridge was held together by Simon Walgate (81) and Will Megginson (47). Bridge’s Charlie Wilson (57) and Tom Lawson (47) laid the platform for a four-wicket win.

Ovington II’s James Eckersley (104) and Sam Dixon (51), two new members to the club, put on 154 for the second wicket to set up victory against Hemingbrough.

Thorpe Willoughby thumped fellow promotees Yapham, who lost Ovington II loanee Mo Waqur when he had to be taken to hospital by ambulance with a back injury.

Thorpe cruised home, ending on 136-2 after Andy Kirk (60) shone in an opening stand of 78 with Andy McEvoy.

Marcus Thandi guided Hirst Courtney to a winning total against Malton & Old Malton with an unbeaten 103. He added 92 for the third wicket with Ben Copeland (51) as Hirst made 230-5. Malt’s batsmen folded against Luke Mitchell (6-31).

Mike Millington scored his second successive century as Dunnington overcame Stamford Bridge II by four wickets in division three. He struck exactly 100 to follow his opening-day 101 against Acomb.

Burn II openers Ray Adamson (89) and Oli Steward (44) put on 152 in a total of 195-7 against Bishopthorpe. Rob Ireland led the reply with 42 and Mike Dale hit 25 off 27 balls before a partnership of 62 between Ed Bindloss (42) and Alex Jubb (41no) earned the Bishops a final-over victory.

Acomb proved too strong for Thorpe Willoughby II, winning by 143 runs. A century opening partnership between Andy Ingle (46) and John Askham (63), followed by 87 from Farat Ansar saw Acomb pile up 249-6.

Press Performance of the Week: Kelfield’s Craig Lawson produced a stunning all-round display with 108 and 5-34 in an impressive win against Burn in division one.
