EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Henry Harrison produced a stunning all-round display to see Thixendale sweep aside Burn II in the Scothern Construction Cup.

Dale opener Nigel French pulled a hamstring in the second over but swung the bat to record 36 before he was bowled. Harrison (52) hit some big blows but wickets fell at the other end and Dale were bowled out for 177 in 32 overs.

Harrison opened the bowling and tore through the Burn card with a fast, hostile spell to bag 7-12 in seven overs. Burn were dismissed for 45 in 16.2 overs with extras the top scorer at 15.

Acomb, missing seven regulars due to an Under-19 T20 competiton, lost to Yapham who notched up two club records. Openers Mark Fairey (88) and Jack Foster (57) put on 125, a Yapham record in the Vale League for the first wicket partnership. Their side finished on 256-6 - another Vale League record for the club.

Steve Lennox (56) was the only batsmen to make a mark in the run-chase as young off-spinner Jamie Creaser making use of the dusty track to take 6-20.

Bishopthorpe made it through to the quarter-finals of the HPH Cup but were pushed all the way by Ben Johnson. Ben Smith (66) top scored for the Bishops, but most of their line-up struggled against the slow left armer Graham Byrne (6-32) who restricted the total to 151. The printers found runs hard to come by early but skipper Paul Morrison had a real go scoring a quick-fire 40 to bring the visitors right back into the match. Bishopthorpe’s bowlers held their nerve to closing out the match for a hard-fought 13-run win.

Burn overcame Ovington II by six wickets with a solid all-round performance. No Ovington batsman topped 30 as they were bowled out for 151 in 37 overs. Norman Elliott (32) gave Burn a decent start and the job was finished by an unbroken partnership between Joe Shaw (38no) and Jake Webster (29no).
