REVITALISED Thixendale CC raise the cup that cheers as they celebrate a winning return to action.

All 30 HPH York Vale Cricket League clubs received a box of Sainsburys Red Label tea from the supermarket chain’s Foss Islands store before the start of the season.

Thixendale were on the verge of folding last season but reformed and toasted a 143-run opening day division four win against Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

“It was just the job on a chilly afternoon to start the 2015 campaign.

“We are grateful to Sainsbury’s for their continued support of grassroots cricket,” said Vale League chairman Shane Hargrave.

Thixendale resigned from the league because of lack of players midway through last season when they played in division one.

However, a plan was put in place which saw the club’s league membership suspended so they could regroup for this season.

With help from the league committee a recruitment campaign proved successful and the village side were readmitted to the league in division four.

They got off to a flying start with Will Megginson proving the star of the show, scoring 63 and taking 4-6 from just 20 deliveries. He put on 111 for the second wicket with Les Milburn 41.

With Geoff Room scoring 39, Dale totalled 188-5 then bowled Bridge out for a meagre 49, Room taking four catches behind the stumps.
