HOME comforts could help York Cricket Club maintain their red-hot start to the season.

The Clifton Parkers entertain Sheffield Collegiate in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League tomorrow before kicking off their National Knockout cup campaign against York & District Senior League outfit Beverley Town on Sunday.

Captain Marcus Wood’s men could not be going into this important weekend of action in better form.

Unbeaten in the league and having claimed the Black Sheep Champions Trophy, confidence at the club is high.

That is exemplified by opening batsman Duncan Snell, who hit a superb 150 in York’s incomplete win over Doncaster last weekend.

The win pushed York into third in the table and it is fifth-placed Sheffield who will look to provide another hurdle in the way of the Clifton Parkers’ push for a fourth successive league title.

It’s a settled side which face the South Yorkshire outfit – Snell and returning Australian batsman Dan Wilson continuing to resume the partnership which destroyed the rest of the division last season.

Liam McKendry, who is proving a huge asset to the club in his opening few games at Shipton Road, will also look to be among the runs with Wood, Nick Kay and wicket-keeper Nigel Durham the ever reliable presences.

Ashley Hulme or Jonny Moxon, son of Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn, could be in the side which faces Beverley Town, with Australian batsman Dan Wilson ineligible for that competition.

Meanwhile, Neil Laidlaw, in the Scottish squad which starts their 40-over campaign against Leicestershire on Sunday, is included in the seconds on Saturday but could feature in the first XI the following day if not needed by the Saltires.
