YORK, Sheriff Hutton Bridge and Scarborough all maintained winning starts to the Hunters ECB Yorkshire Premier League North as sunshine and blue skies helped produce some outstanding performances and fascinating contests.

Acomb and Driffield produced the competition's first tie while the game between Woodhouse Grange and Stamford Bridge at Sandhill Lane went down to the wire with Tom Young the late saviour for the hosts.

Reigning champions York claimed a hard-earned 84-run victory over Sessay at Clifton Park which owed much to the outstanding individual performances of the competition's all-time leading run-scorer Duncan Snell (145) and Stephen Langstaff taking 4-75.

Openers Mark Wilkie (61) and Matthew Till (31) got the reply off to a solid start but the second half of the match belonged to York skipper Daniel Woods who would finish with a season-best 7-45.

Clifton Alliance captain Scott Hopkinson put in a fine individual effort with 37 scored as his side were bowled out for 120 with Ban Harrison (5-42) and Russell Robinson (3-25) the pick of the Sheriff Hutton Bridge attack.

An opening stand of 53 between Louis Foxton and Mark Fisher looked to have set Bridge away to comfortable victory but Hopkinson (4-30) made life difficult for the visitors who eventually got home with four wickets to spare.

Scarborough enjoyed a 52-run victory at newly-promoted Castleford with a third-wicket stand of 95 from winter recruits James Pick (97) and Sam Drury (45) helping them to 226-3.

A cameo from Amir Ditta (27 off 13) helped the hosts reach 171-9 and their first points of the campaign.

Driffield Town opener Grant Halder top-scored with 80 at Acomb as his side were bowled out for 186.

Stuart Boyle (28), Oliver Collins (38) and Joe Dale (35) set up the chase but a couple of run-outs in a hectic finale ensured the points were shared.

The fortunes of both Stamford Bridge and Woodhouse Grange fluctuated at Sandhill Lane as several Grange batsmen got starts, including James Finch (35), but none were able to make a telling contribution resulting in a total of 178-7.

Bridge's overseas signing Pradeeptha Gunaratne took 3-33 while Ryan Gibson (31) and Ryan McKendry (32) gave the visitors a solid base but Young picked up three wickets to bowl the hosts to victory with just four runs and two balls to spare.

Harrogate's Jack Potticary brought up 97 against visiting Yorkshire Academy whose George Hill and Joshua Sullivan both took three wickets as the hosts were bowled out for 221.

Tom Loten (48) and George Hill (34) spearheaded the Academy’s response but wickets from Harry Stow (3-33) and Tom Geeson-Brown (3-40) saw them fall 46 runs short.
