THERE was a low-key start to the newly-formed Hunters ECB Yorkshire Premier League North as wet weather meant that four of the opening day's six matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The two remaining fixtures were one-sided affairs, with the home sides taking maximum points in games which followed a remarkably similar pattern.

York saw off Dunnington by 100 runs in a contest that was restricted to 24 overs per side.

Meanwhile, overseas signing Ali Asad hit the day's top score, the opener making 88 for Driffield Town against Scarborough.

A third-wicket partnership of 113 with Sam Drury (50) helped the hosts reach 213-7 from a rain-restricted 36 overs, James Pick finishing with figures of 3-37.

Nick Hardgrave dominated the second half of the match, taking 6-22 – including three wickets in the final over as the visitors slumped to 98 all out –debutant Oliver Stephenson (36) being one of only three batsmen to reach double figures.

* Wet weather also decimated the opening day of the Hunters York & District Senior League across the top two divisions.

Only one of a dozen matches had any play and there was precious little at that as Folkton & Flixton reached 14-0 from 2.5 overs at home to Bridlington before the rain claimed that fixture as well.
