PLOTS are already being hatched to bring York Cricket Club their eighth Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League title.

The Clifton Parkers bring down the curtain on another successful defence of the trophy when they host Sheffield Collegiate tomorrow.

But, far from resting on their laurels, vice-captain Nick Kay says the planning has already begun to make sure they will have once again broken their own record of successive crowns – and grabbed another gong – this time next term.

“It’s been another incredibly successful season and we have broken our existing record,” he said. “From our point of view, it was job done and we have already started the planning for an eighth title.

“We want to achieve more success on a national stage and we have a young side who are very ambitious. The future is very bright and we have a team that will hopefully stay together for another four or five years.”

Aside from the desire to end the season on a winning note in front of a large home crowd against Collegiate, several players have notable milestones to fight for – including batsman Liam McKendry, who is bidding to score 1,000 runs, and skipper Dan Woods.

“You always worry that the last few games can become quite meaningless but we will all be watching Dan Woods, who will be hoping he can create his own piece of history,” Kay added.

“If he can get to 91 wickets he will break a record set in 1991 and he needs three to tie and four to break it.

“I have never played in a York team that has gone out wanting to lose. We will be scrapping as hard as possible for the eight points.

“We have got a big club night on the evening and the beer always tastes better when you have a win. There will be no resting on laurels. We have got a big following and we don’t intend to let them down.”

York’s side will be the same that crushed Appleby Frodingham in the league last Saturday, meaning Kay and Glen Richmond will turn out for the second team.
