Yorkshire County Cricket Club have handed a three-year deal to former England Under-19 batsman Adam Lyth.

Lyth, 21, played 14 LV County Championship fixtures last season and hit a maiden first-class century against Nottinghamshire.

Whitby-born Lyth, the White Rose county’s young player of the year for 2008, said: “It was always my dream to play cricket for Yorkshire, 2008 has gone really well for me.

“My challenge now is to continue the hard work into 2009 and beyond.

“I’m delighted to have signed a three-year deal as this is where I want to play my cricket and I think there are exciting times ahead for the club.”
