BRADFORD’S Adil Rashid has committed his future to Yorkshire until the end of 2019 by signing a new three-year contract with the county champions.

The England leg-spinning all-rounder, 28, debuted for the White Rose in 2006, and he has gone on to take 704 senior wickets, including 49 in all forms of international cricket.

He has also scored 7,895 runs in first-class and limited overs cricket, including ten centuries.

Rashid, described as “a special player” by Martyn Moxon, has played an integral part in Yorkshire’s back-to-back County Championship title wins in 2014 and 2015.

He claimed eight wickets in the Roses win over Lancashire at Headingley earlier this week.

Rashid, who made his Test debut over the winter for England against Pakistan in the UAE, is likely to play in the forthcoming one-day series against Sri Lanka.

He said: “I’m delighted to sign a contract extension with Yorkshire. The last year has been great for me after winning the Championship, playing across all three formats for England and experiencing the Big Bash at Adelaide Strikers.

“I love representing my home county, and I hope to win more silverware with Yorkshire in the years to come.”

Yorkshire’s director of professional cricket Moxon added of the club’s Academy graduate: “I’m thrilled that Adil has signed a contract extension.

“Adil is a special player across all three forms of the game and had a memorable year in 2015, both in England and overseas.

“He has been a very important player for Yorkshire and has played a crucial part in our recent success.

“We look forward to seeing Adil continue to perform for Yorkshire and on the world stage.”
