LIAM Plunkett and Jack Brooks struck during the opening afternoon of Yorkshire’s Specsavers County Championship Division One match with Surrey at Headingley today, but the visitors remain on top thanks to a fine century from Steven Davies.
Plunkett had Kumar Sangakkara caught at first slip for 73 and Brooks had Jason Roy brilliantly caught at third slip one-handed by Joe Root.
The two wickets came in successive overs to leave Surrey at 161-4 in the 46th over, with the first of those wickets ending a 122-run stand for the third wicket between Sangakkara and Davies.
Davies, who brought up his century off 137 balls in the session’s penultimate over, has since shared 69 unbroken with Ben Foakes (21).
Davies will resume this evening on 103 not out.
