STAMFORD BRIDGE ace Lauren Winfield starred as Yorkshire CCC women made it a County Championship double for the White Rose by lifting the 2015 women's title in thrilling fashion.

England player and Yorkshire captain Winfield, who plays for Stamford Bridge in the Hunters York & District Senior League, hit a superb unbeaten 65 as the Tykes took the title by beating the old enemy Lancashire by eight wickets at Harrogate in their final game of term.

The team may now get to go to Buckingham Palace with the Yorkshire men's squad if the same protocol is adopted as last year.

It is the their first trophy in the last 13 years and, in a successful season, they also came second in the women's T20 competition, pipped by the narrowest of margins in the table by Sussex Ladies.

In the championship, Yorkshire won six of their eight matches, with one loss and one cancellation, with the victory over Lancashire seeing them pip Kent to the title by just two points.

Sussex were third, 11 points further back. Lancashire finished bottom after eight straight defeats.

In the last match of the season, Lancashire won the loss and elected to bat but, in damp conditions, Yorkshire were ruthless with the ball.

England seamer Katherine Brunt and leg-spinner Katie Levick had the Red Rose in trouble at 6-3 and, with tight bowling at both ends, Lancashire continued to struggle and at 25-7, they were starring at humiliation.

However, they fought on and mustered 113 all out from 38.3 overs. Levick finished with 6-25 from 10 overs and Brunt 2-12.

Yorkshire needed to surpass the total in 28 overs to pick up enough batting points to confirm the championship and from the outset they went for it with some aggressive batting.

After losing Cecilia Allen for one to a wonderful catch by Laura Marshall, Yorkshire took stock, with Winfield and Brunt being cautious to start with but soon getting into their rhythm.

They dispatched bad balls to the boundary and ran well between the wickets, meaning the run-rate was never an issue.

Brunt departed for 34 but Winfield showed her England pedigree as she took the team home, her 65 not out including seven fours. Alex MacDonald hit the winning runs in the 23rd over.
