YORKSHIRE coach Jason Gillespie admitted he was "still shaking" after seeing his side defeat Durham by 183 runs at Scarborough.

The three-day victory left Andrew Gale's team with a 50-point lead at the top of LV= County Championship and in pole position to retain their title.

Superb bowling in contrasting styles by Liam Plunkett, who took 4-61, and leg spinner Adil Rashid, who collected 3-66 to follow his 127 with the bat on Saturday, helped Yorkshire bowl out Durham for 263, thus completing their first-ever double over one of their keenest rivals.

"To stand here with a victory after being 95-9 in our first innings and 79-5 in our second innings is just beyond belief really," said Gillespie.

"Obviously there was a massive partnership between Rashid and Glenn Maxwell, which was fantastic counter-attacking cricket, but our work in the field and with the ball on the final day has left me shaking a bit."

Gillespie's amazement is understandable, given that he was speaking at the end of a game in which 20 wickets had fallen on the first day, only to be followed by a 248-run stand on the second.

Sunday's action saw the 4,400 spectators at North Marine Road witness Michael Richardson's side dismissed for 263 shortly after tea.

The celebrations certainly suggested that some of the fans were less cautious than Gillespie as to where they thought the Division One title was heading next month.

Despite fighting their way to 196-4 in the first two sessions, the visitors lost their last six wickets for 66 runs as Jack Burnham was the last man dismissed after making 50 on his first-class debut.

After dismissing Yorkshire for 440, a total in which Steve Patterson made 36, from 420-9 overnight, Durham's early batsmen played some fine shots on their way to 107-2 at lunch, with Graham Clark lbw to Plunkett for 36 just before the break.

Durham therefore needed another 340 to win after a session in which the Yorkshire seamers bowled a fine attacking length but were sometimes hit for boundaries as a result.

It was in the afternoon that the outcome of the game became all but certain. Five wickets fell, including two in one Rashid over, to leave only the niceties to be settled in the evening.

The first wicket fell in the second over after lunch, when Scott Borthwick was brilliantly caught for 31 by a diving Maxwell at third slip off Plunkett.

The former Durham seamer also took the next wicket to fall when Gordon Muchall, having made 15, could only fend a bouncer to keeper Andrew Hodd.

That left Durham on 143-4 but Richardson and Burnham then added 53 for the fifth wicket before Richardson was leg before to Tim Bresnan for 48.

Rashid then took three of the next four wickets as Durham's resistance disintegrated. After tea he trapped John Hastings lbw for 16 and Chris Rushworth caught by Plunkett at cover, before Burnham skied Plunkett to where Gale took the catch that sealed the win.

In the moment of victory, Gillespie was quick to pay tribute to Plunkett and said: "I was shuddering myself when I was watching Liam bowl out there.

"It was fast and it was nasty at times and you're not going to see anything quicker in county cricket than that."
