JACK BROOKS took two wickets as Yorkshire and Middlesex shared the spoils on the opening morning of their LV= Division One match at Headingley.

Having won the toss and opted to bat, the visitors were 83 for two at lunch with Nick Compton on 25 not out and Dawid Malan unbeaten on nine.

However, it was still a good morning for Brooks, who struck first in the fourth over of the day when he had Joe Burns leg before for just four.

Sam Robson and Nick Compton then added 62 in 21 watchful overs before Brooks returned to the attack and struck in his first over from the Kirkstall Lane End when he bowled Robson for 41.

That left the visitors on 68-2 but Compton and Malan ensured that Andrew Gale’s bowlers made no further breakthroughs.

The tone has therefore been set for a match which sees the current Division One leaders take on the current champions.

Yorkshire left out James Middlebrook from their 13-man squad and also omitted Ryan Sidebottom, who pulled up in the warm-ups.
