Jason Gillespie has re-affirmed his commitment to Yorkshire in the wake of big mate Darren Lehmann’s appointment as the new Australia coach.

There were suggestions around Headingley yesterday that the former fast bowler could link up with his ex-state, county and international team-mate as part of the backroom staff ahead of next month’s Ashes series.

But Gillespie has ruled out the possibility, insisting he is happy with life at the White Rose county.

Asked if he has been in contact with either Lehmann or Cricket Australia regarding a role, he said: “No I haven’t, and that won’t be happening.

“I’m Yorkshire’s first-team coach, and I love my job. My family is very happy here and settled, and I’ll be here. Simple. I’m committed to Yorkshire, so I’ll be here.

“We feel as a support staff that we’re working well together, and we’re getting a good response from our players. We want to see them do really well and have some success. That’s our goal, and I’m really excited to be a part of it.”

Gillespie, however, admitted he would have no qualms advising Lehmann on any issue should the Yorkshire legend need to bend his ear.

Gillespie has also praised Cricket Australia’s decision to sack Mickey Arthur just 16 days from the first Test at Trent Bridge.

“I’ll admit I didn’t think Cricket Australia would be bold enough to make this call, but I’m really pleased they did. I think it’s a fantastic decision,” he added.

“All I’ve heard ever since I got to England, I cop it from everyone here, ‘we’re going to trounce all over you Aussies’.

“All the negative things that have been coming out of the Australian camp, that’s going to stop as of now. I guarantee that it’s all going to be positive. Darren will drive that.”
