THE biggest shock in round one of the York Senior League Cup saw reigning league champions Clifton Alliance heavily beaten by Heworth.

Chris Moores hit 53 for Heworth and Shannon Bowen made 46 in a total of 244-6. Clifton's unbeaten record was soon in peril as their first six wickets fell for 53 and they were eventually all out for 129.

Malton & Old Malton beat high- flying Goole Town. Ashley Hulme cracked an unbeaten 112 in Goole's 213-5. Malton skipper Mike Linsley made 70 and Jonathon Davies hit 49 as they eased to a five-wicket win with ten balls to spare.

There were records galore in the game between Sheriff Hutton Bridge and Stamford Bridge.

Stamford Bridge skipper Matt Beckett and West Indian Tamar Lambert scored a ton apiece as they beat the third-wicket partnership record of 182 and the previous best partnership for any wicket of 232. They had added an unbroken 292 by the time the innings was closed at 315-2.

Lambert's unbeaten 159 beat the previous best individual innings by Easingwold's Martin Robinson (149).

In reply, opener Dave Speake made a century - providing the first instance of three centuries in the same game - as they were 185 all out.

Elsewhere, division one side York II won by ten runs at Easingwold and Dunnington beat Thirsk by eight wickets.
