THE Hunters York & District Senior League title race will go down to the wire after the penultimate round of Premier Division matches was almost entirely wiped out by wet weather with the three overs bowled between Sessay and Bolton Percy the only play across the entire top two divisions.

Clifton Alliance will be favourites to the lift the crown as they take an eight point advantage into a home game against Beverley Town next Saturday while rivals Easingwold finish off with a trip to already relegated Heworth.

Whatever happens next week the top two are guaranteed Premier League cricket next season after the wash out denied Sessay the chance of back to back promotions, while Studley Royal having spent almost the entire season in the top four also miss out.

It promises to be a nervous afternoon at the foot of the table where Goole Town need six points to be sure of staying up but face a Bolton Percy side who need to win to have any hope of survival in the top flight, and both will be anxiously awaiting the result of the match between fellow strugglers Hull Zingari who host Sessay on the final day

Whitkirk are the Division One champions and if they avoid defeat at home to bottom side Osbaldwick will have gone through the entire campaign unbeaten.

Simon Webb and his team were left celebrating after constant rain led to cancellation of the latest round of matches. Malton & Old Malton will be joining the champions in the top division next season as the weather secured them the runners-up spot.

Bridlington were left bemoaning the lack of cricket as the cancellation of their match against already relegated Pocklington means they will be joining them in the third tier next season.

The remaining relegation place will see one of Beverley Town, Hornsea or Patrington go down, for the latter two it would signal an immediate return to division two and it could hardly be closer with eight points covering the trio.

Beverley Town look to have the most difficult final day fixture as they play host to Malton & Old Malton, Hornsea travel to mid-table Selby, whilst Partington who currently occupy the final relegation place, take on Bridlington.
