SEVEN junior cricketers from Pocklington Cricket Club have been selected to represent East Yorkshire for the 2016 season.

Lewis Chaplin, Henry Sumner, Ted Baty, Oli Spencer, Harry Jackson, Jessica Forman, and George Baty were all chosen after a series of trials.

Andy Inns, club chairman and coach, said: "The boys and Jess have worked incredibly hard to achieve this level at such a young age. They are all totally committed to their cricket and have a great attitude.

"They are superb ambassadors for Pocklington Cricket Club and deserve every success," he added.

"As club chairman, what is particularly pleasing to note is the number of district players that we have compared to much bigger clubs."

The youngest, Lewis Chaplin, 7, will represent East Yorkshire's Under-nines team, while Sumner, aged 11, has been chosen to play for the Under-11s.

Ted Baty, Spicer and Jackson, who are all aged 12, will represent the Under-12s team.

Forman, 15, has been selected for the Under-15s' women and girls' team and George Baty, 15, will play for the Joe Lumb Under 17s representative team.

George, who already plays for Pocklington's first team in York Senior League division one, started playing cricket five years ago and has developed through the junior and senior teams.

Having been selected for East Yorkshire, Ted Baty, Spencer, and Jackson are now eligible to play senior cricket a year early and will make their debuts for Pocklington's 3rd team in the Vale League this season.

Lewis Chaplin's dad, John said: "It's great to see youngsters enjoying their cricket so much.

"The children love the Thursday coaching sessions and are proud to represent Pocklington when they play matches.

"I'm looking forward to seeing Lewis and all of the youngsters developing through the ranks like George has."

Pocklington CC's thriving junior section fields teams in the York league and increased its coaching squad with the appointment of three new junior coaches for the 2015 season.

Junior coaching takes place at Burnby Lane between 6.15pm and 7.45pm on Thursday evenings and all are welcome.
