A DRAMATIC end to the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League division one season saw Goole Town grab the last promotion spot – despite losing a thrilling match against Driffield Town.

Bolton Percy missed out as they suffered a surprise defeat to Beverley Town in a final day of twists.

Goole knew victory would secure them promotion and must have felt confident of success after Ben Lamb (3-24) and David England (3-24) helped dismiss the visitors for 154, which included a half-century from Will Norman (52) and 40 from Mike Sharp.

Ollie Ounsley (50) and Ashton Nottingham (44) both made valuable contributions in a losing cause as Owen Goldsworthy (4-23) and Grant Hutton (3-37) bowled Driffield to victory with 12 runs to spare.

The result meant the home side clinched the runners-up place but left the visitors reliant on the result of their rivals.

Bolton Percy, having spent more than half the season inside the top four, missed the chance to finish there after their defeat.

Beverley reached 239-7 thanks to Tom Hudson (63) and Michael Cooke (63).

Danny White struck 66 for Percy but Matthew Saint (4-42) and James Emery (3-13) secured a convincing victory by bowling them out for 144, ensuring the teams will meet again next season.

Whitkirk’s Michael Murphy just missed out on the highest individual innings of the season finishing unbeaten on 147 - that honour going to Matthew Till with 155 for Sessay against Folkton and Flixton.

Murphy’s efforts, combined with those of Simon Webb (65) and James Malthouse (35no), were enough to set a target of 253-1 for Bridlington to chase.

The home side never looked likely to challenge as Ben Danby took 5-46, while Simon Leeson’s 55 made in a reply which fell 103 runs short.

Folkton & Flixton got the best of a draw to deny Pickering runners-up spot in a match shortened due to rain.

Chris Mann wasted little time blasting his way to a half-century off only 14 balls while a strong team batting performance produced a total of 188-8 from 30 overs.

Pickering were unable to match Folkton’s exploits with Jamie Nesfield taking 5-24 as they struggled to 122-7. Only Colin Frank (38) managed a telling contribution.

The two remaining fixtures were both abandoned without a ball bowled condemning Osbaldwick to the wooden spoon.
