SELBY maintained their unbeaten start to the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League division two north season thanks to a fine unbeaten 56 by in-form Matt Hoyle, writes David Bowden.

Batting first, Easingwold II were skittled out for 111 after an impressive spell from Joe Romaniw who made the most of his call-up to the first team by collecting figures of 4-13.

Despite losing early wickets Selby saw the game home with four wickets to spare to continue their fine start to the season.

Michael Smith starred with the ball as he helped his side to a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Ripon.

Having won the toss and elected to bowl, Sheriff Hutton Bridge II reduced their hosts to 33-5 and in disarray, though Ripon skipper Ben Crewe restored some pride hitting a quick-fire 50 to propel his side to 114-9.

SHB made light work of their target, with opener Louis Foxton hitting an unbeaten 50 graced by three fours and two sixes to see his side home.

York fell one wicket short of victory as a dogged last stand from Clifton Alliance denied them the chance of grabbing a first win of the season. Having been invited to bat first York hit 143-8 from their reduced overs of 37, with the impressive Robert Flack smashing 87.

His knock underpinned his side’s total, and proved invaluable as he maintained his cool among some good bowling from Ryan Turner who returned figures of 3-14 from his ten overs.

Simon Hall’s fine spell of bowling of 5-15 wasn’t enough to force victory for York though who could not remove the final pair and still remain winless this campaign.

The remaining fixtures between Harrogate and Londesborough Park, Hovingham and Thirsk and Duncombe Park and Acomb were all abandoned due to heavy rain.
