THE York and District Senior Cricket League retained the Hedley Memorial Cup by beating the HPH York Vale Cricket League representative side at Beverley.
Both sides found scoring difficult on a moist track but a sixth-wicket stand of 75 between Steve Janney (Bridlington) and Nick Johnson (Rowntrees & Huntington) proved decisive for the Senior League.
Johnson had earlier taken 3-17 in nine overs as the Vale batsmen struggled, Mark Earle (Westow) top scoring with an unbeaten 30. Martyn Hewitson (New Earswick) took 3-39 and Janney 2-26.
Needing 112 to win, the Senior League were in trouble at 17-3 before Janney hit 54 and Martyn Woodliffe (Malton & Old Malton) 37 to set up a three-wicket victory inside 32 overs.
