DUNNINGTON staved off the threat of relegation from the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division on a rain-hit day.

A haul of 12 points from their abandoned meeting with Beverley Town means they are now certain to retain their top flight status.

Collis King hit 71 and the free-scoring Jack Bolam made 58 not out. With Adam Sutcliffe adding 43, Dunnington made 206-6.

However, Beverley were unable to start their reply.

The top two sides met at Woodhouse Grange, but the game was aborted after Easingwold had reached 72-4. Skipper Steve Burdett took 3-14 for the champions.

Fourth-placed Stamford Bridge had reached 139-4 against bottom side York thanks to an unbeaten 66 by Paul Milner before the weather intervened.

The game at Fenner was reduced to 40 overs per side, with the hosts making 203-5 against Sheriff Hutton Bridge as Ross Davey hit 58.

The Bridge’s reply was not promising with Rob Pinder’s 27 the only decent contribution before the weather took control at 93-5.

Sessay moved up to second place in division one with an eight- wicket home win over Bridlington.

Bridlington made 154-9 with Mark Wilkie claiming 3-32 before hitting an accomplished 86 as he and Tim Hall, with an undefeated 53, steered Sessay to a hugely important victory.

Heworth received the championship trophy before their game at Acomb, who bowled out the table-toppers for only 97.

Neil Johnson, with 28, was the only batsman to rate a mention as Simon Brown captured 3-20 and Joe Dale took 4-17.

Acomb were 19-0 when they weather ended the game.

Malton & Old Malton against Driffield was another of the games to end as an abandoned draw due to the weather.

Driffield posted 186-7, with Grant Halder making 63 and Nicky Johnson an unbeaten 50. Shaun Harland responded with 39 not out as Malton moved to 51-2.
