CRAYKE’S heavy defeat to Clifton Alliance consigned them to relegation from division one of the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League .

Clifton Alliance took first innings at Crayke and, with the consistent Nick Hindle making an unbeaten 82 and Ryan Partington supporting with 38, Alliance posted 142-2.

Crayke’s response limped to 55-7 with Josh Bean claiming 4-21.

Newburgh went into their fixture at Helperby needing a win to be certain of retaining their division one status. Batting first, Tom Banks (38), Charles Ramsay (54no) and Jason Sargent (23no) all made runs as Newburgh totalled 126-2. Helperby were 34-1 in the ninth over when the weather intervened.

Champions Thirsk suffered a rare defeat at Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

Thirsk batted first and 47 from Ben Elders and 25 from Mark Nursey took them to 116-6, but Bridge opener Josh Cockerill made 31 and David Phillips 43 in a winning 118-3 in the 15th over.

Sessay ended their season with a win at home to Dringhouses .

Dringhouses struggled to 54-7 as Alistair McKenzie took 3-14. Nick Thorne (29no) and Paul Flintoff (23no) then took Sessay to a rapid victory at 60-0 in five overs.

Division two winners Alne lost at Rowntrees. Steve Burdett made a half-century in Rowntrees’ 108-4, with John Dowd (21) also contributing. Toby Stirke had the best return for Alne with 2-11.

Rowntrees pair Steve Allen (2-14) and Pete Edmondson (2-19) restricted Alne to 106-7.

There was another close finish at Acomb where Huby were edged out by three runs.

Steve Lennox (49) and Chris Foster (21) helped Acomb to 145-5 with Mark Swales returning 3-34.

Huby’s Max Lord (46), Ian Robertshaw (35) and Thomas Piercy (15no) carried them to 142-4.

Easingwold ended their campaign with a victory when they beat Sheriff Hutton by two wickets.
