ACOMB and Thirsk are vying for leadership of division one in the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League.

Thirsk made the highest score of the season when they rattled up 191-3 at Alne, with Sean Holmes making 69 and Mark Wainwright 75.

The home side's reply closed on 75-8.

At the foot of the table, Alne and Clifton Alliance have yet to pick up a point.

Newburgh recorded their first win of the season when they travelled to Alliance.

Danny White top-scored for Clifton with 35 not out, while John Thornton was Newburgh's most effective bowler with 2-21.

Opener Rob Proudley (48 not out) guided Newburgh to victory at 93-4 with more than an over to spare, despite the efforts of Dave Friend (2-13) and Bob Taylor (2-41).

Sessay had an easy win at home to Easingwold. Nick Thorne and skipper Chris Till shared an opening stand of 99 before Till fell for 49.

Thorne went on to make 82, but the latter stages of the innings were held in check by Mike Roberts, who took 5-31 as Sessay closed on 145-5.

Easingwold started solidly but failed to pick up any sort of momentum and limped to 59-5, with Craig Easton taking 2-13 and Luke Ramsay claiming 3-17.

Acomb continued their fine start to the season with a narrow win at Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

Acomb batted first and made 135-6, with Andy Jacques making 20, Chris McTurk 48 and Farhat Ansar 29 not out.

Eddie Hull took 3-26 for the hosts, and then made 45, with support from Andrew Kenny (21) and Mark Prosser (20 not out).

But youngster Callum Crawford took 3-20 as Bridge closed short on 127-6.

Helperby lost for the first time at Crayke after being bowled out for 74, with Ally Raper claiming 5-19.

In reply, Crayke's Mark Fenton (35 not out) played the match-winning innings as the home side reached 76-6.

Civil Service comfortably took the points when they visited Stillington.

Chris Sinclair-Whicker (38) and J Griffin (27) were the main scorers as Civil Service made 163-8, with Chris Browne (2-28) having the best return for Stillington.

Jack Cartwright (26) led Stillington's reply, but wickets fell to Sinclair-Whicker (3-10), Andrew Tessier (3-27) and Mark Bywater (2-15) and the young Stillington side were all out for 93.
