Sessay fended off Sheriff Hutton Bridge in the first division of the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League, their 115-7 total due mainly to 37 from Nick Thorne and 29 from Chris Till.

But the home batsmen did not have things all their own way as James Kay (2-20), Harry Sutcliffe (2-16) and Taylor Coyle (2-13) bowled tidily for Bridge.

James Easton was impressive with the ball for the hosts, his five overs yielding two wickets for 12 runs, and a solid all-round bowling performance, which included 2-33 from Mark Jackson, was enough spike the reply which closed on 98-4 with David Speake unbeaten on 45.

Hosting Newburgh, Dringhouses looked to be in a good position when Tom Owens blasted 71, including six sixes, out of 147-3.

Rob Proudley and Charles Ramsay got the Newburgh reply off to a promising start before Ramsay was dismissed for 26. Young off-spinner Jacob Green took 2-33, but Proudley went on to make a match-winning 80 not out, with valuable support from Jason Sargent (29no).

A fine opening stand between Jason Gatus (63) and Nick Hindle (52) was the basis of Clifton Alliance’s 152-5.

Toby Stirke (2-27) and Stuart Morley (2-33) picked up late wickets for Alne, but the reply foundered to 114-9 against Alex Renton (3-4) and Louis Clark (2-17) and, despite 34 from James Belli.

Second division leaders Easingwold notched 129-5 against visitors Rowntrees and Huntington. Dan Copeland (52 retired) and Kyle Waite (22) shone.

Tommy Langstaff returned 3-13 to undermine the reply which closed on 104-8 after Jack Hugill had made 51ret and Sam Beales 22.

Sheriff Hutton kept up the pressure with a win over New Earswick.

Tom Hewer led Earswick with 29no but a spell of 4-6 by Simon Ganderton and Richard Ainley’s 2-21 curbed the innings to 85-7.

Geoff Schofield (31no) and Richard Reynolds (19no) led Sheriff home.

Civil Service recorded only their second win of the season when they beat Raskelf. Only A Baker (26) of the Raskelf batsmen made any real progress as his side were dismissed for 84. A half-century from Will Phelps took Civil Service to the win at 89-4 in the 15th over.

Acomb were narrowly beaten at Huby, who reached 138-7 via Edward Buck (22), Rob Steele (52ret) and C Brown (35). Christian Burton took 3-42.

Despite the efforts of Joe Dale (52 ret) and Dan Littlewood (37), Arran Kirkbride (3-24) made inroads and Acomb failed to find the six they needed off the last ball to triumph.
