Woodhouse Grange showed their title credentials by beating current title-holders Stamford Bridge by seven wickets in the Foss Evening Cricket League.

Tight bowling ruled as David Suddaby’s miserly 2-5 from three overs held Stamford to 61-6 from 16 overs.

David Craven (2-8 from four overs) had Woodhouse wobbling until Luke Cattle (19not out) and Richard Winterburn (16no) saw the Grange home with 13 balls remaining.

Dunnington were beaten for the second consecutive week, this time by York.

Jack Bolam led the Dunnington batting tally with 60 out of 115-4. Brothers Nick (28) and Will Stephens (48) were the mainstay of the York innings before Reece Smith hit a six to finish proceedings.

Stockton & Hopgrove maintained their unbeaten start and continue to top division two after a 35-run win over Bishopthorpe. Matt Durkin (49) and Jamie Kerrison (37no) added 69 for the opening wicket for Stockton but John Latimer (3-30) reined them in to 115-6.

Colin Markham (30) set the Bishops off to a flier but Dan Fairclough (4-7) ripped through the middle order to bowl them out for 80.

Aviva Vikings picked up their maiden win with a 14 run triumph over Thixendale. Sunny Sharma (47) and Neil De (41no) led the Vikings to 112-2. Thixendale’s reply was built around Geoff Room’s 48, but he ran out of partners as they fell for 98.

Melbourne’s Brian Underwood took three wickets in an over on the way to figures of 4-2-2-4 as Askham Bryan were rolled over for just 30 – the last seven wickets falling for ten runs.

Youngster Freddie Collins (26no) made short work of the chase, Melbourne losing just two wickets.

Ovington claimed their fourth successive victory, by 70 runs against Retreat II.

J Whale hit 70, adding 99 for the first wicket with S Littlewood (27). Ovington posted 154-3.

D Hickey (3-6) curbed Retreat II to 84-7, despite an unbeaten 44 from B Kitchner.
