Dunnington were given a scare by struggling Wheldrake after totalling 176-2 in the Foss Evening Cricket League division one.

Runs from Adam Iyer (28no), Jack Bolam (66) and Adam Sutcliffe (54) led Dunnington to their daunting total.

Wheldrake had Dunnington’s bowling attack in disarray as Matt Walker plundered 51 off 14 balls and Anthony Carter hit 47, but they ended 39 runs short. Woodhouse Grange lead the way after a crushing 104-run victory over Barmby Moor. Tom Quinn (44) and new signing Rich Winterburn (23) added 70 for the opening wicket before Chris Bilton’s 36-ball 51 not out took them to to 158-5. Veteran spinner Russ Bilton (4-3) and Luke Phillippo (4-10) then ran through Barmby’s batting.

Heworth kept up the heat on Grange, beating Stamford Bridge by 38 runs. Rich Walton (91) made the highest top flight score this summer as he and Jack Leaning (56) led Heworth to 183-3. Bridge made 145-7 in reply.

Yapham had a two-run victory over Pocklington in the battle of the top two in division two. Guy Brumfield was the game’s all-round star with 71 and 5-37 as Yapham posted 157-3. Pocklington fell agonisingly short despite Andy Inns’ 34 and Huw Attwood’s 26.

Londesborough Park have joined Yapham at the top after a 100-run victory over Heworth Colts. Callum Robertson (60no) and Mike Drewery (47) led Park to 142-2 with a 90-run second-wicket stand. Heworth struggled to 42-8 in reply as Darren Moody took 3-6 and young Greg Drewery recorded figures of 5-4-1-2 with the only run coming from a misfield.

Melbourne made it two wins on the bounce with a nine-run victory over the Retreat. Charlie Lambert’s 79 not out helped Melbourne to 138-5 and, despite Salman Syed’s 42 not out and Gareth Fenton’s 34, The Retreat could not reach their target.

Stockton & Hopgrove now have a four-point lead in division three after beating Fulfordgate by 65 runs.

Stockton made 186-4 as Giles Smith hit 84 and Danny Barrett made 47. Fulforgate reached 121-9 in reply.

Westow are the nearest challengers after a nine-wicket victory over Thixendale. Pete Stacey’s 48 got Thix to 126-5, but Matt Turnbull’s unbeaten 94 helped Westow win.

Dunnington Academy beat York RI by eight wickets. George Wilson, 13, took 5-13 as RI made 139-7, but Johnny Andrew’s 96 not out led Dunnington to victory.
