Woodhouse Grange and Heworth are the only division one sides boasting a 100 per cent record after the second round of matches in the Foss Evening Cricket League.

Heworth rolled Yapham over for only 56, thanks to Steve Ward’s return of 4-10. Paul Neal then scored 35 as Heworth romped home by seven wickets.

Woodhouse Grange had David Suddaby’s 75 not out from 37 balls to thank for a win against a spirited Melbourne. Woodhouse posted 146-5 and 17-year-old strike bowler Harry Collins picked up 3-17 to put Melbourne in early trouble. However, Joss Room (31), John Chaplin (24), Matt Beevers (24) and Brian Underwood (26) made their best efforts to overhaul the champions, but fell 28 short.

Barmby Moor bounced back from their last-ball defeat in week one with a nine-wicket win over Wheldrake. Matt Walker’s 25 was the only significant score in Wheldrake’s 65-6, while Charlie Cameron (26no) and J Sykes (25no) knocked off the score for Barmby with more than six overs to spare.

Dunnington’s victory over Stamford Bridge was based around Jack Bolam’s all-round performance. Bolam scored 34 in his side’s 107-3. Gareth Miles also added 35, then took the season’s best figures of 4-9 as Stamford fell short at 96-9. Mark Holmes (34) and Dave Bradshaw (27) tried to resist, but Gerard Camplejohn (3-20) backed up the efforts of Bolam.

Division two has been hit by the resignation of Pocklington. Their matches will now take the form of a bye and the two points awarded to The Retreat last week have been expunged.

Heworth Colts maintained their strong start, claiming a five run victory over Londesborough Park. Will Rymer’s 30 not out was key in Colts’ 81-5. Will Ravenhall (3-13) and Martin Boothroyd (3-27) then gutted the Londesborough innings to leave them short at 76-9.

The Retreat scored a comfortable victory as Sid Mouncey (55no) and Ian Surgenor (31) added 95 after an initial wobble against Stockton & Hopgrove to post 140-4. Stockton were restricted by miserly bowling from Mouncey and John Hughes, mustering 85-5 in reply mainly due to M Cox (30no) and C Perera (26no).

Cueball picked up a comfortable 25-run win over Westow despite the best efforts of the Earle brothers. Mark Hancy (58) hit a maiden half century after 20 years in the game, while Mick Nelson (39no) contributed again as Cueball made 132-3. Westow promoted their youngsters to the top of their batting order and it left too much for Mark Earle (52no) and brother Neil (33no) to do as they fell short at 107-4.
