Foss Evening Cricket League division one leaders Woodhouse Grange did not have it all their own way despite bowling out Dunnington for just 45.

Tight bowling from Woodhouse forced the visitors to go after the Gilbank brothers John, who took 4-14, and Michael, with 3-7, but Dunnington skipper Gareth Miles made the only score of note with 13.

Grange lost the prolific Mike Hattee to a diamond duck, while 15-year-old Luke Wilson (17) and Mathew Shepherd (20) were so restricted it required Chris Bilton to smash the first ball of the last over for six to claim victory.

Londesborough Park moved up to third with another dominant home victory. Stockton & Hopgrove were rolled for just 50 with Darren Moody (4-5) and stand-in skipper Tom Williamson (3-2) the tourmentors.

Park took just 58 balls to get over the line for the loss of two wickets.

Ovington caused an upset by beating division two leaders and hosts Melbourne, where Craig Nicholl’s unbeaten 68 and 26 from Ben Morrison took the Knavesmire side to 130-5.

Freddie Collins then made 53 but received little support from his team-mates as Melbourne were bowled out 15 short, Harry Buckley’s triple-wicket maiden for 3-20 the key contribution.

Pocklington narrowed the gap at the top to two points with a 23-run victory at Bubwith. Sam Parkinson (32) and Isaac Green (29not out) took Pocklington to 117-6 despite a brace of wickets each for Kieran Hartnell and Guy Brumfield.

Callum Quarton (3-18) and Dan Croft (3-11) then picked up three wickets each to gut the Bubwith batting order for 94, Charlie Lambert showing the only resistance with 21.

Bishopthorpe leapt above opponents The Retreat into third place with a four wicket win. Salman Syed (42no) was again the Retreat’s batting rock, his knock spanning all but one ball of the innings and taking his run tally past 400 for the season. Bishopthorpe regularly lost wickets, but maintained the required run-rate to get home with two overs to spare.

Heworth Colts and Retreat II played out a division three tie as Heworth claimed a wicket with the penultimate delivery to avoid defeat. Heworth posted 97-9 as Andrew Ferguson (3-14) and Pete Gent (3-26) ran through the youngsters.

Polish national Damian Jafra in only his third year since taking up the game, was Retreat’s top-scorer with 18 but Jordan Edge’s 3-14 helped to claim two points for the Colts.

Thixendale were able to sneak a win by one-run against York RI, who finally got a home match at their new surroundings of the University of York.

Thixendale posted 125-3 with Joe Robinson hitting 60 and skipper Pete Stacey 38. Ali Khan took all three wickets for RI. Despite the efforts of Divoyd Smith (38) and Steve Littlewood (26), the Railwaymen fell short.
